Looks like the VC isnt as complex as we're lead on to believe. This news/info alone may yet further reveal things about the VC as far as homebrew goes.

Quite ironic, what is illegal is now what nintendo itself are using for the Wii VC games. I thought they tried remaking them, yet it's simple re-coding.

To the post above, you could get a ROM, but unless you own an original copy of the game, it's illegal. And yes, there is some recoding in the game, as they do have to redo some control systems etc, and make adjustments for the wii, even stripping some features out... imagine if gameboy colour games came out, and you tried to mystery gift on pokemon gold/siver/crystal... the wii has no infared, and so nintendo would have to remove the feature, hence adjusting the code

It's not illegal for nintendo to do it. It's their intellectual property, and they own the rights to the games... it's illegal for us to do such things, but with nintendo owning the rights/licence for these games, they can do what they want. Basically they are selling our old games back to us, because to most of us, it's compulsion to throw away our old consoles for new ones, and they are using that as an oppurtunity to accumulate a higher revenue from gamers...

do you need homebrew to do that? i have updated psp, never noticed you culd homebrew a psp if it wast updated =(

illegally? the whole point of the wii shop is to legally own the title in digital format, rather than doing the immoral thing of downloading content from rom sites and the like, and then using emulators or modded hardware to play them.

Think about it this way, if nobody bought games, and just downloaded them, publishers and developers would be forced to put advertisements into the game to fund them, or just give up completely... imagine a game with stupid popups or loading screens indoctrinating you to purchase a specific kind of shampoo, or to buy the latest mobile phone/electronics.... yes, maybe these people are making a lot of money as it is, but the pirate lifestyle is becoming more appealing, and it sets to harm a lot of companies...

I know it's not for nintendo, as i know that, i'm saying it's ironic that what is illegal for us, suddenly is the exact thing nintendo is doing, probably to save money, but still i'm a bit disappointed, no wonder half the games on it have bug issues.

I thought everyone knew this already. Its been known for a couple of months when they first extracted a VC game.

This is why I made such a huge point that VC and ROMs are exactly the same, and Nintendo wouldn't ever add online multiplayer.

They just get the rom, and insert it into their spacial VC program to make the channel.


But since you are buying them from Nintendo, these ROMs are legal.

As has been mentioned, I guess it makes them completely "legit", but yes, I knew that about the ROM's already but I knew others weren't aware of it, especially with the Debate you mentioned that we were discussing about. Your points that were raised probably have greater significance now with this piece of info for those that weren't in the know.
