Yes & No.

Yes, because on player games surely are fun.

No, because multi-player games lack story.

What you need is more Co-Op 2 player games, online/offline.

Now thats something we need.

Yeah, I think maybe there could be a better focus on single-player in a way, in terms of Replay Value, but at the same time, games should have a STRONG multiplayer componnet, especially with it being on the Wii, multiplayer is just so much greater and enjoyable than on other consoles, imo.

But think, too, that some people (which is what the article talks about) play just ONE GAME for a very long time. That's what I did when I first got my Wii. Only SMBBB. Then I played RRR for over a year!!! :o RRR has enough substance and staying power to keep me playing for that long and I still play it because it's just that challenging and fun on my own! I think more games should look at RRR's structure and emulate it because if that were the case, that would definitely be stellar!

Yeah, since some multi-player games have weaker stories, some developer could create a game that has both excellent gameplay and multiplayer, wifi or not.

I still think there aren't enough Co-op games around. This would at least encourage either online play, or at least, having a friend round playing with you.

RE: Should the gaming industry focus on the 'one-game player' more?

You guys may be missing the point a bit, though. It's a bit vague if I'd try to explain what the article is saying as a whole but here goes.

Some people like to play a single game for a VERY long time so what they're saying is, should developers extend a game's replay value, playability and longevity where the "one-game player" audience won't be dissatisfied in the long-run. How they'd do that is by enchancing the single-player experience, for sure.

And I honestly think that the industry really should focus on this more, even nintendo despite the Wii being a major multiplayer console, still, focusing on single-player is great for this audience and third-party developers certainly have experimented and executed this technique really well.

RE: Should the gaming industry focus on the 'one-game player' more?

I disagree. I believe sure single player is osmething you need to work on, but for example.

Co-Op games, that give these things enhance the game alot more than needed, whilst at the same time giving you the option ot play with a friend or online, you can have loads of fun. Plus play missions not in single player, offering two stories or missions at the same time. So this could build a better replay value, since Co-Op play often encourages the role of single player games and adds to them.

However they should try to adapt and focus less on multi-player modes, and focos more on Co-Op and single.
