CONTROLS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here are the controls you’ll make use of in the game:
[Wii Remote]
*Control Pad: Used in some mini-games to move your character when
the Wii Remote is held sideways.
*A Button: Used to select and traverse between menu’s and settings and
it is commonly used in mini-games.
*B Button: Used in some mini-games as a replacement/alternate for the A
Button.
*Minus: Used to exit from a mini-game practice.
*Plus: Used to bring up the Pause Menu. Here you can customize settings during gameplay or you can quit the game you’re playing. In Party Mode, you can customize which groups of Minigames to play, choose whether or not to skip the computer’s mini-games (HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED), change computer difficulty, alter the message speed, or change a computer-player to a human player or vice versa. In Star Battle Arena, the only settings you can customize is that of skipping the computer’s mini-games and the message speed.
*Home: Used to bring up the Home Menu where you can customize
Wii Remote settings, see Wii Remote battery life and connections
for all Wii Remotes you’ve properly synched and you can go back to
the Wii Menu from here.
*1 Button: Used in some mini-games.
*2 Button: Used in some mini-games.
[Nunchuk]
Only used in Flagging Rights as the White Flag. Raise and lower as
directed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CHARACTERS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This version of Mario Party spans the most characters to ever appear in
any of the previous games: a total of 14.
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Yoshi
Wario
Daisy
Waluigi
Toad
Boo
Toadette
Birdo
Dry Bones
If you don’t know by NOW (even after seeing the half-silhouetted
pictures on the character selection screen), you’d come to learn that
there are two newcomers to the party. This time around, though, we
welcome two new additions to the party:
Hammer Bro and Blooper
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HOW TO UNLOCK HAMMER BRO AND BLOOPER
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Beat the Star Battle Arena to unlock ONE of the characters.
Beat it a second time to unlock the other secret character (which
is VERY lame, IMO).
However, it should be noted that the character you face is random
so to have the best chance of unlocking the second character,
choose the first character you unlocked which will guarantee that
you will face and unlock the character you need as opposed to
having to face the character you just unlocked because of having
picked a different character.
Now, enough talk. Let’s get started, shall we?
*********************************************************
WELCOME TO THE PARTY!
**********************************************************
Mario Party 8 spans the following main modes:
* Star Battle Arena
- This mode allows you to advance the Storyline – it’s a single-
player mode. It can be argued that this is the game’s “main
mode”, if you will.
* Party Tent
- The game’s main attraction! Play on an assortment of
various, theme-inspired worlds. Supports up to 4 players
simultaneously! Enables players to participate in a Battle
Royale or a Tag Battle for 1-4 players or a Duel Battle for
only 2 players.
* Mini-Game Tent
- Obviously, THE place to play all your favourite mini-games!
Supports up to 4 players but some games can only support 2 or 1.
All depends on the game.
* Fun Bazaar
- Serving the same purpose as the Duty-Free Shop in Party 7, this
Bazaar can be used to use your coins to unlock various new
things for your amusement and pleasure. As well, you can view
your best records, (once unlocked) the best records of the
game’s developers, and the souvenirs you’ve unlocked. You can
even purchase elusive mini-games that you’re having trouble
unlocking!
* Extras Zone
- Just like in Mario Party 4, this mode provides you with an
assortment of “extra” mini-games. These games allow you to use
your Mii’s from the Mii Channel in replacement of the normal
Mario Party 8 roster.
Note: At the start of the file introduction, MC Ballyhoo will
always utter a greeting. His second text box after his greeting
welcoming you to the Carnival actually has some valuable tips
sometimes! Rea what he has to say as it varies each time.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HOW TO PLAY WITH MULTIPLE WII REMOTES
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
One of the most common questions I’m getting is: “How do I add more
controllers?” and “How do I allow more people to play with me?!”
YOU NEED TO SYNC YOUR WII REMOTES!
The best place to do so would be on the Wii Menu. READ YOUR
WII INSTRUCTION MANUAL for more info – that’s what it’s there for!
The information can be found on pages 20 and 21.
There are 2 ways to go about doing this:
***************************
Method (1): THE HOME BUTTON
***************************
WHAT?
Allows you to TEMPORARILY add secondary Wii Remotes from your
friend’s consoles. Once the power is turned off or once games
are switched, the SYNC is lost.
HOW?
Press the Home Button and select the WII REMOTE SETTINGS option on the screen. Select RECONNECT. Press 1 and 2 Buttons simultaneously to add a Wii Remote. The order in which the buttons are pressed on each Wii Remote determines the order in Multiplayer games.
***************************
Method (2): THE WII MENU
***************************
WHAT?
Allows you to PERMANENTLY add secondary Wii Remotes.
HOW?
You need to press the SYNC button (a red button near the SD Card
Slot) on the Wii and press the SYNC button (a red button in the
battery compartment) on the Remote you wish to add. After the
LED lights stop flashing, the synchronization process is
complete.
Now, let’s look at the modes more in-depth:
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
STAR BATTLE ARENA
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The game’s “Story Mode”. Players proceed through a series of game
boards against a computer player, accomplishing goals to make your way to the top of the charts and save the carnival!
The mode consists of all the six boards and you must face a computer opponent on all of them.
The story centers on MC Ballyhoo (the “ringmaster”, if you will) who
invites Mario and his crew to participate in the festivities of a
carnival he has brought to Mushroom Kingdom (hey, it beats having the annoying Toadsworth again :P). However, Bowser hears of the carnival as well and decides to follow Mario and his friends to make their lives miserable. As he says, it’s not a party without Bowser around. Anyway, MC Ballyhoo pits you against your friends to see who will come out on top during the tournament. To raise the bars, he has offered a yearly supply of candy to the person who can save the carnival, and although you can already guess who that will be, the other characters from the Mushroom Kingdom want to earn this seemingly awesome prize. Thus, the race to save the carnival is on with no rules – it’s no-holds-barred!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
TIPS FOR STAR BATTLE ARENA
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
GENERAL
- Bowlo Candy will cause you to steal 20 COINS as opposed to the usual 10 in Party Mode.
- After a Challenge mini-game and you have to throw a dart, wait just under a second after the text at the bottom shows up (telling you how to throw the dart), and then throw. You should get 10 or 20 coins. If you throw right away as soon as the text appears, you’ll probably get 5 or 10 coins.
DK’S TREETOP TEMPLE
- Try to get Slowgo candies to land on DK Spaces as much as possible.
- Land on specific Green Spaces and/or head for the coin areas if
you’re needing of some coins.
- The Ukikis (if you land on the Green Happening Spaces) will cause you to lose 10 coins.
- If you’re having trouble getting the Star and/or your opponent needs one more Star to win and he’s almost there, use a Slowgo Candy to land on a DK Space to spring you to the Star, or the Bowser Space to move the Star to a more, let’s say, “convenient” location.
GOOMBA’S BOOTY BOARDWALK
- Avoid wasting your coins as the 50-coin requirement for the Star in
Star Battle will be hard to come by. Don’t bother with Candy that are
over 20 coins at the Shop.
- As in Party Mode, use a Dice Block-enhancing Candy when you’re right before the Star Space to ensure you don’t land on the question mark right before it as this will practically guarantee that your rival win as it’ll send you all the way back to Start!
- If you are sent back to the Start after reaching the end (but not
having enough coins), you can continue your dice roll if you have
spaces remaining.
- Try landing on VS Spaces as much as possible to ensure your victory over your rival. Slowgo Candies help here.
KING BOO’S HAUNTED HIDEAWAY
- Save a Springo Candy or a Thrice Candy if you reach a pitfall so you can resume close to where you left off so your rival doesn’t get the advantage.
- If you fall out of the mansion with Dice rolls remaining, your turn
will still end regardless.
- Sometimes, it’s better to let your rival go ahead of you and choose a path so you can see if the door right after it leads to a trap or not.
- Try to find the DK Space. It’ll help tremendously as DK will cover
all the pitfalls and grant you a Free Star if you find him.
- The Thwomp that protects doors sometimes doesn’t always help you. He could just lead you right into a trap but it’s worth the risk of paying him if you have enough coins to spare.
SHY GUY’S PERPLEX EXPRESS
- Don’t buy any candies at the shop unless it’s a Thrice or Twice Candy for really cheap. Once you have enough coins, dig out the dice-enhancing candy to get to the celebrity faster than your rival.
- Challenge and VS Spaces are valuable here.
- Remember that there are other ways to get coins: there is a Coin
Block right after the celebrity that could earn you 10 coins or so,
plus, the conductor, once you reach him, will give you 10 coins if you
don’t have enough.
KOOPA’S TYCHOON TOWN
- At the very start, head up instead of left as the computer will tend
to head straight for the first hotel. Don’t bother fighting for
possession on that one (just yet, anyway).
- Realise that in order to win, you must earn 4 STARS so even if you
get one Star on each hotel, you still need to upgrade one of the
hotels.
BOWSER’S WARPED ORBIT
- Head to the shop right away. Grab the Bowser Candy.
- Keep your coin values small at the start because you can get a Bowser Candy for like 10 coins or so if you have little coins.
- Try to land on as many coin spaces as possible and keep buying Bowser candies. Your inventory should consist of two of either a Bowser/Bullet candy and one dice-enhancing candy to help you catch up with or get away from your rival.
- Avoid landing on the Question Mark spaces that’ll either cause Bowser to reverse the board or cause everyone’s orbs to get shuffled!
- Keep an eye on the map closely and watch your rival to make your next move.
THE FINAL MINI-GAME!
For tips on the final boss mini-game, Superstar Showdown, see the tips in the Mini-Game section designated for this mini-game. Although, it should be noted that it’s VERY easy because of one factor.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
PARTY TENT
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Participate in one of the game’s six game boards that can be played
with up to 4 players simultaneously! Y’know how the Party formula works by now I hope, but if you don’t, brush off on your skills in the Star Battle Arena before making your way to the main attraction.
There are three separate game settings you can customize, all of which can be set to varying amount of turns to determine the length of the game:
(1) Battle Royale
Players will participate in a free-for-all match.
(2) Team Battle
Players will work in a team of 2 to defeat the competition. This mode
centers more on co-operative mini-games than 4-player, competitive
mini-games.
(3) Duel Battle
A special setting for Party Mode not featured before in Mario Party’s
(other than in Solo Cruise from Mario Party 7). 2 players will duke it
out head-to-head. Good for 2 human players and when you want to get those pesky computer players out of the way for some varied fun and excitement. Essentially the same as Star Battle Arena as these boards feature different elements than the normal ones in the Party Tent. For example, you’ll have to fulfill certain conditions to win and sometimes the paths aren’t the same as the normal board in Party Mode.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
DIFFERENCES FROM BATTLE ROYALE
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
There are some notable differences between Duel Battles and the normal Battle Royale that should be commented on.
* In this method of play, the objective will be described at the start
of the battle. This objective varies per stage.
* The boards in this mode are notably different in size and some paths aren’t the same as in the normal Battle Royale.
* After two players finish their turn, mini-games aren’t initiated. To
start a mini-game, you must land on either a VS. Space or a CHALLENGE SPACE as only Duel and Challenge mini-games are found in this mode.
* There is no “Chump Charity”. Instead, the premise is still used in
that the player in second place will throw a dart at the dart
wheel/roulette to have a chance at earning a free piece of candy.
* DK spaces work differently in Tag Battles. Usually, instead of
granting players Stars, he will offer them a piece of candy instead.
* Bowser spaces also work differently in Tag Battles. Usually, instead
of taking away Stars, he’ll take away coins from you instead or, if
playing on a board where the objective is to gain more than one Star,
he may steal your Star, or, he may give you coins for you to buy a
Star.
* If both players fail to complete the objective within 30 turns, the
game is declared a DRAW.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
MINI-GAME TENT
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
As the name suggests, this mode involves players in varying mini-game based competitions. Naturally, you can play your favourite mini-games one-by-one but there are some other neat variations that make the options a little more appealing than those in prior games – e.g, Waterfall Battle from Mario Party 7.
The game consists of these five separate gameplay modes:
1. Free Play Arcade (1-4 Players)
Naturally, you can play your favourite mini-games that you’ve already
unlocked here by choosing them one-by-one.
2. Crown Showdown (1-4 Players)
A simple mini-game challenge. Depending on what you set it to, the
first player to earn 3, 5, or 7 mini-game victories will be pronounced
the winner. (Note: If playing with a friend, I strongly suggest going
for 7. You’ll find going for 3 will be somewhat short-lived.)
3. Flip-Out Frenzy (1-4 Players)
Players aim to take control of the board by playing randomly-selected
mini-games.
4. Tic-Tac Drop (1-2 Players)
A game of Tic-Tac-Toe whereby winning randomly-selected mini-games will earn you the ability to put down a piece on the game board. Participate in an assortment of Duel mini-games against one other player to match up three balls of your color in a direction. In that way, it can be compared to the likes of the game, Connect Four.
5. Test for the Best (1 Player)
An unlockable mode from the Fun Bazaar. Think of it like the Decathlon Park and Castle from MP6 and MP7 respectively.
Encompasses the following games:
Swing Kings
Kartastrophe
Snipe for the Picking
Rotation Station
Alpine Assault
Ion the Prize
Settle It in Court
Surf’s Way Up
Pumper Cars
Saucer Swarm
You will be given a ranking for your performance in the game. The aim
is to rack up the highest distance possible using the Hot Air Balloon.
Your distance is determined by your performance in the games.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
TIPS FOR TEST FOR THE BEST
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The following is a list of tips for all the games in Test for the Best.
These tips should help you earn the perfect score on most of them. See how close you can come to the perfect 10,000 points!
Don’t forget, the games will appear in random order.
(Note: Ranking System refers to the requirement for a specific grade.
Difficulty ratings are out of 5.)
TIPS FOR UNLOCKING MINI-GAMES
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
-> To unlock all the 2-vs-2 mini-games, just play Tag Battles. Most, if
not all the mini-games will be 2-vs-2 games!
-> To unlock all the Duel mini-games, participate in the Star Battle
Arena. Surely in your efforts to unlock BOTH Hammer Bro and Blooper,
you’ll most likely be able to unlock most, if not all, of the locked
mini-games.
-> Challenge mini-games can also be found in the Star Battle Arena,
most predominantly. Use the Slowgo Candy to aim for the Challenge
spaces. These should be easy to obtain as there are only 3 of them in
total.
FUN BAZAAR
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
As you play the various options the game has to offer, as you continue
to be successful in the mini-games, and as you dominate the competition
on the game boards, you will earn Carnival Cards! Carnival Cards can be
redeemed for various prizes, bonuses and unlockables via this mode, the
Fun Bazaar.
Think like the Duty-Free Shop in Mario Party 7, only better.
Below is a list of the unlockables found in this mode.
3. CARNIVAL WAGON
You can view all of the figurines you have purchased here. You can also
enter the figurines into a live parade, which is somewhat similar to
the Mii Parade feature on the Mii Channel.
4. MINI-GAME WAGON
Additionally, you can purchase any of the mini-games you haven’t
already unlocked in the game: these DO cost Carnival Cards whereas
playing them in Party or Star Battle Modes is free (although the
selection is randomized). It’s a nice feature for those aiming to
unlock all the mini-games.
5. CARNIVAL CALLIOPE
Come here to listen to in-game music and SFX once they’ve been
unlocked.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
TIPS FOR UNLOCKING CARNIVAL CARDS
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The best ways to earn Carnival Cards is through the “Test for the Best”
mode. Unlock that one first (early) if you can. Second best bet would
be Star Battle Arena. Use both of them interchangeably as they’ll get
annoying after a while…
Here’s the breakdown of earning Carnival Cards:
- Play a mini-game: 1 Card
- Complete Star Battle Arena: 200 Cards
- Test for the Best: 20 Cards for any score under 9000; 30 Cards for
a score between 9000 and 9999; 100 Cards if you get a perfect
score! ( + another 10 for each time you play )
- Party Board: # of Turns x 2 (e.g, 10 Turns = 20 Cards)
Anyway, it’s not too bad that the integrated Mii involvement into the
game and it’s a good choice to do so as it worked really well in
DK’S TREETOP TEMPLE
PREMISE
This board does the least to stray from the normal Party-board formula
in that on this board, stars will cost you no more than 20 coins, as it
always has been before (since the beginning of the series, there’s at
least ONE board that features this format).
STAR BATTLE GOAL
- Earn 2 stars.
STAR SPACE
- Costs the normal 20 coins.
LUCKY SPACE
- Found: Right in front of the DK Statue.
- You’ll be taken behind the board where there are coins on each space
you pass, plus, at the end of the path is a FREE STAR!
- Have I landed there? YES
- After you’ve gotten the Star, you’ll be sent back to the Start.
DK SPACE
- You’ll get sent straight to the Star Space!! You’d better hope you
have enough!
BOWSER SPACE
- Bowser will move the Star Space.
CHUMP CHARITY
- MC Ballyhoo will give the player in last place a Duelo Candy and
coins will be added onto all the spaces.
SHOPKEEPER(S): Spear Guy
SHOP NAME: Candy Canteen
TIPS:
- Go for the Lucky Space as much as you can!
- Use the Slowgo Candy to attempt to land on the DK and Lucky Spaces.
- Shy Guys will give you coins for a piece of Candy if you land on
their respective Green Spaces. If you don’t have any on you, you’ll
still earn a few coins.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
PREMISE
This board is set in a tropical setting along a shoreline. The board is
linear and the only Star Space is located at the end of the track, just
like Pagoda Peak from MP7. You’ll have to show no mercy to earn the 50-
coins required for the Star on this board!
STAR BATTLE GOAL
- Buy a Star from Goomba for 50 coins!
STAR SPACE
- At the very end of the board. Costs 0 coins!
LUCKY SPACE
- Found: 2 spaces on the bridge right after where the first Dolphin
Shuttle drops you off.
- You’ll be taken to an ancient island with coins on each space you
pass plus a FREE STAR!
- Have I landed there? YES
- After getting the Star, you’ll head back to the Lucky Space.
DK SPACE
- A special bonus game: toss 5 coins into a barrel and make like the
soda game and shake the barrel as much as you can for bonus coins.
BOWSER SPACE
- Bowser will breathe fire at you. The embers that touch you will cause
you to lose coins but you can try to jump over and avoid as many as you
can.
CHUMP CHARITY
- MC Ballyhoo will give the player in last place a Duelo Candy and
coins will be added onto all the spaces.
SHOPKEEPER(S): Purple/Female Pianta
SHOP NAME: Candy Craft
TIPS:
- Use a Slowgo or a Twice Candy right before the Star Space to ensure
you don’t land on the question mark right before it which will send you
all the way back to the start!!
- The prices for the Dolphin Shuttles vary depending on your proximity
to the end and your current rank. Sometimes, one player may get a
Dolphin Shuttle for 20 coins (maybe they’re in first place) while
someone (who’s maybe in last place) right after may get the same
shuttle for a rate of only 5 coins! It varies extensively so be sure to
take note of it.
- Whenever you see a Delfino Island villager who is next to a Happening
Space, try to land there. They will throw you even closer to the end of
the board. One of these is near the shoreline where you’ll find a
villager who is fishing: try to land there as he’ll give you a free
candy!
- Use a Thrice Candy and head into a Dolphin Shuttle. Use the remaining
Dice Rolls to advance even farther!
- Use the Dolphin Shuttles to reach the end quicker. They will continue
to charge higher fees the more you use them and the closer you get to
the end. Also, don’t forget that one of the Bonus Stars, the Shopping
Star, accounts for your usage of the Dolphin Shuttles as well.
- Even if there are coins on the board during the last five turns,
sometimes it’s better to avoid them and still go for the Dolphin
Shuttles.
KING BOO’S HAUNTED HIDEAWAY
Fun Factor - Solo: 5/5
Frustration Factor: 5/5
Music: 4.5/5
MY OVERALL RATING: 5/5
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
PREMISE
This board is set inside a haunted mansion – King Boo’s mansion, that
is. The board is set like a maze in that there are many rooms you can
enter in search of King Boo who wields the Star, and will give it to
you for even less than on the DK board!
STAR BATTLE GOAL
- Earn 2 Stars.
STAR SPACE
- King Boo wields the star. You’ll have to journey into many of the
rooms to find him. You’ll only have to pay 10 coins this time!
LUCKY SPACE
- Found: In random areas; always by a staircase.
- The space will lead you upstairs across spaces with coins that you’ll
earn every time you pass them. The path leads to the room King Boo is
in and you’ll still need 10 coins to get it from him. You should have
enough with the coins you receive on the spaces leading to the pipe.
- Have I landed there? YES
- After getting the Star, everyone will be sent back to the Start.
DK SPACE
- Donkey Kong will prevent a trap from affecting you by blocking or
concealing it someway. Sometimes he gives you a Star too.
BOWSER SPACE
- You’ll get your Star stolen.
- Oddly enough, if you don’t have a Star, then he’ll give you 10 coins.
Probably so you’ll be able to buy one so he can steal it from you
later… :P
CHUMP CHARITY
- The person in last player will be able to affect the game by throwing
a dart at the spinning dart board and coins will be added onto all the
spaces.
SHOPKEEPER(S): Pink Boo
SHOP NAME: Candlelit Candy
TIPS:
- There is a small little bonus game run by the sneaky little mouse
named Mowz. This pinball game will allow you to steal coins, candy or
even a Star. It’s sometimes wise to use this as sometimes finding King
Boo for the Star can be tedious.
- Traps will come up by surprise at times. Watch the paths your rivals
follow and avoid them if possible.
- The map isn’t too helpful as parts of it aren’t visible. This
emphasizes the need to watch the paths your rivals follow, even more so
as the map will reveal certain parts if you or your rivals journey
there.
- Take notice of the background and avoid spaces that are next to
traps. Take this into consideration when you reach a fork in the road.
- You can try to memorize the pathways you’ve already followed but this
doesn’t always work: especially after you’re shot out of the mansion.
- After a Star is taken from King Boo, he’ll kick everyone out of the
mansion, re-arrange all the traps and you’ll be required to find him
again! IMO, this is quite fair as even the person in last place could
have a chance.
- The special rooms that can be found at the end of some of the
hallways will have random effects:
* You could get a Star from King Boo himself!
* DK will cover up all the traps for you inside the mansion!
* Pink Boos will grab you and throw you outside of the mansion,
requiring you to start all over!
Take notice of the rooms your rivals enter (if possible) to avoid the
same fate.
- It’s better to stay at the back of the pack than to go zooming ahead and activating traps.
- Springo and Thrice candies are very valuable here: Springo, if you
need to get off a path that’s leading to a trap and Thrice to get to
the Star area fast (if it’s discovered by someone who couldn’t afford
it), before your opponents do and/or to make your way through the
mansion to explore paths.
- Once you find DK, use a Thrice Candy to run to the nearest already-revealed pitfall room before anyone else!
- For this board, concentrate on taking coins away from your opponents more so than earning high numbers and moving a lot of spaces. The Cash-zap, Thwomp and Vampire Candies can be very useful here. If you continue to harass a victim of your choice (if you can continually GET that person: maybe try following them?) once they reach King Boo, they’ll be very frustrated since they won’t have enough coins! Then, you can swoop in and take the Star. This acts as an “insurance” if you will: you can ensure that one player will most definitely find a Star (w/ the exception of the Lucky Space) so that you’ve significantly increased your chances of finding the Star.
- If you’re near a rival who has enough coins to get a Star from Boo
and/or they’re near a Lucky Space, use the Bloway Candy to send them outside of the mansion and make them start all over.
PREMISE
A unique train-like board run by the conductor, Shy Guy himself (for
now anyway). It bears a striking resemblance to Riot Train from Sonic
Shuffle. :)
STAR BATTLE GOAL
- Deliver 50 coins to the celebrity, Holly Koopa, for a Star.
STAR SPACE
- At the front of the train. The conductor will give you a Star for 20
coins.
LUCKY SPACE
- Found: ????
- Will lead you to the train station where you can get off, earn coins,
a free star, and still get back on the train at the end of the path.
- Have I landed there? YES
- After getting the Star, you’ll be sent back to the Start.
DK SPACE
- DK will have his own cart near the front of the train. Reach him
first for a free Star.
BOWSER SPACE
- Like DK, Bowser will have his own cart as well. He’ll steal a Star or
coins away from you if you land there.
- If you don’t have a Star, though, he’ll give you 30 coins for free!
Has he changed or what? (Actually not really as he’ll steal the Star
you get later… not a bad strategy actually. :P)
CHUMP CHARITY
- The person in last player will be able to affect the game by throwing
a dart at the spinning dart board and coins will be added onto all the
spaces.
SHOPKEEPER(S): Shy Guy
SHOP NAME: Chew-Chew Concessions
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
TIPS:
- The journey up to the front cart is not too lengthy one. Use Thrice
Candy as often as possible.
- Watch the characters in the background. One of the question mark
spaces has the conductor asking you to identify a character who stole
money off a passenger.
- There aren’t many choices in paths to follow, leaving opponents very
vulnerable for Thwomp Candy and the like.
PREMISE
A sweet board set in a luxurious metropolis. Players will invest coins
in hotels to earn Stars, just like in Windmillville from MP7. Unlike
its predecessor, though, hotels can be upgraded to accommodate players
who are “richer” than others.
STAR BATTLE GOAL
- Earn 4 stars.
STAR SPACE
- In this board, designated hotels serve as your usual Star Spaces.
Furthermore, 2-Star hotels require 20 coins, 3-Star hotels require 50
and a SECURE hotel (no one else can put money into it) requires 100!
But be careful, players can easily steal hotels from you so long as
they invest one coin higher than you.
LUCKY SPACE
- Found: About 7 spaces or so after the first hotel. Found right at the
first street crossing. There’s another one that is found about 5 spaces
after the first hotel at the top of the map.
- You’ll be taken in a car ride to a secret part of the town where
there is a secret hotel that grants 3 Stars for any investment!
- There are two DIFFERENT lucky-space hotels. Try to go on a different
one if someone’s already landed on and invested in one of them.
- Have I landed there? NO
- After getting the Star, you’ll walk across the street to a sidewalk
path.
DK SPACE
- DK will invest 20 coins at a hotel you’ve invested in.
BOWSER SPACE
- Bowser will journey to a hotel and steal 10 coins from each player’s
invested total.
CHUMP CHARITY
- 30 coins are awarded to the player in Last Place and coins will be
added onto all the spaces.
SHOPKEEPER(S): Koopa
SHOP NAME: Sweet Deals
TIPS:
- Again, show no mercy in the mini-games you play here.
- Invest a lot of coins at the very last hotel (right behind the start)
as it’s harder for rivals to reach and they’ll usually use up most of
their coins by the time they do reach it, in theory.
- There are a variety of strategies you can use for the hotels but it
all depends on (a) your competition/rivals – whether they be human or
COM’s and their skill levels, and (b) your skill level – how good you
at mini-games:
* If your rivals are good at mini-games, they’ll most likely get a lot
of coins.
* If you’re the one with the passion for mini-games, invest all your
money towards a 4-star hotel immediately!
* If you’re in the lead, focus on ensuring your hotels can’t be stolen
away from you more so than focusing on investing money in each hotel.
* If you’re in last place, try to spread out your investments.
- There are Green Spaces near alleys by hotels that will cause Bandit
to journey to a hotel and take out lots of coins but just enough so the
leader is winning by only one coin. Bandit will take out a maximum of
30 coins; the coins will then be given to the player who landed on the
space.
BOWSER’S WARPED ORBIT
Fun Factor - Solo: 3/5
Frustration Factor: 4.5/5
Music: 2.5/5
MY OVERALL RATING: 3.5/5
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
PREMISE
Bowser’s board in this game. Just like in Snowflake Lake in MP6 and
Pyramid Park in MP7, you’ll have to steal Stars from your rivals in
order to win.
STAR BATTLE GOAL
- Steal Stars from your opponent until they reach a total of 0 Stars.
STAR SPACE
- N/A
LUCKY SPACE
- Found: ???
- A creepy, yet familiar, character will take you to a special part of
the board that holds many coins plus two invaluable resources: a Bowser
and Bullet Candy!
- Have I landed there? NO
DK SPACE
- DK will hand out some candy to you.
BOWSER SPACE
- As expected, Bowser will steal one of your Stars.
CHUMP CHARITY
- The person in last player will receive a Duelo Candy and coins will
be added onto all the spaces.
SHOPKEEPER(S): Toadie
SHOP NAME: Toadie’s Tooth Decay
TIPS:
- Slowgo candy can be an invaluable resource. Stay behind the pack to
succeed.
- Get Bowser Candy and Bullet Candy as fast as possible but don’t go
crazy by using Thrice Candies to get it as you’re leaving yourself open
for when your rivals get the same candy.
- Sometimes it’s better to SAVE your Bowser and/or Bullet candies to
protect yourself against rivals who steal your Stars so you can get
them back.
- Steal Candy by any means necessary! Weeglee candy can help here.
- Springo Candy can help you avoid your rivals if you’re worried you’ll
be the center of attack on the next turn. Depending on whom you pick,
though, sometimes it can lead you right back into the fire you tried to
get away from…
- If you’re getting targeted a lot, focus on the bonus stars you can
earn at the end. In that case, buy dice-block items at the shops in
preparation for the Shopping and/or Running Stars and win mini-games in
preparation for the Mini-Game Star.
- You can use the Question Mark spaces to your advantage. Find the ones
that cause Bowser to reverse the direction of the board to put you in a
position to attack a rival or even all your rivals! In this case, it’s
better to stay in the lead.
Part 2 : Candy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

<<Les bonbons>> FTW! :D
This section delves more in depth into the assortment of items
featured in the game’s boards. The game features a new system,
contrary to the format used in prior games in the series. The game
uses “Candy” in replacement of Items to affect gameplay. How that
is done can be seen through the descriptions you see below:

Note:
“Worth the Cost?” refers to the boards in Party Mode.

~~~~~~~ NOTES ON CANDY ~~~~~~~
* Don’t forget you can only wield a maximum of 3 candies in Battle
Royale but when participating in a Team Battle, the max will
increase to 5 candies.
* To use Candy, you must select the “CANDY” option before hitting
the Dice Block.
* Be sure to carefully examine which candies you’ll need if you are
force to throw one away. Sometimes it may be wise to throw away the
one you just get. Such things like your proximity to the Star, your
current Ranking, and whether or not you have enough coins for the
Star are some things you should consider before throwing a candy
away.
* Try to save a Dice Block-enhancing Candy for the Chump Charity as
it’ll come in handy if MC Ballyhoo places coins on every space –
you can get them first!
Part 3 : Game Flow
Hopefully you know how the Mario Party formula works. If not, view the
in-game tutorial to learn more, and the manual is also a good place to
refer to. This section, though, covers certain parts of the Main Game
that should be highlighted, not necessarily HOW you go about playing on
each of the boards – that’s what the manual is for.
RE: Mario Party 8 - Complete Walkthrough
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
NORMAL SPACES
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
BLUE Space: The most common space found on the boards. 3 coins will
be given to you when you land here.
RED Space: The second most common space found on the boards. 3
coins will be taken away from you when you land here. If you have 0
coins, none will be taken away. And, no, you won’t go into negative
values.
GREEN/HAPPENING/EVENT Space: A space with a question mark that will
trigger a board-specific event depending on the area you are in.
For example, on the Treetop Temple board, if you land on one of the
Question Mark spaces near the statue/the top of the board, Ukiki’s
will roll on barrels down ladders, chasing you which will lead you
further down the board.
DK Space: Donkey Kong’s own space! Since around Mario Party 5, he
has no longer been part of the Mario Party roster, but, instead, he
has his own space where he’ll help you out in your quest for the
Star. Note, though, that what’s different from previous Mario
Party’s is that once you land on a DK Space, all the spaces will
change over to a Bowser Space…
BOWSER Space: Bowser’s own space! Bowser’s never liked the party so
he has his own space to ruin your day. All of his actions will
prevent you, in some way, from succeeding. Sometimes, though, he
may pity you - could this be a new side of Bowser we’ve never seen
before? Nah… Again note that once someone lands on a Bowser Space,
all the Bowser Spaces will change into DK Spaces.
LUCKY Space: A BRAND NEW SPACE never before seen a Mario Party
prior to this. Landing on this bright yellow space will send you to
a special, secret part of the board you’re playing on whereby you
can earn more than the usual coins from Blue Spaces and at the end
of the path awaits a Star (or in one case, 3) that will be granted
to you free of charge! How sweet is that?
VS. Space: Land on this space to initiate a DUEL MINIGAME you’re
your rival. The winner will be able to steal coins from the loser
by way of a roulette that must be stopped by throwing a dart at it.
(Only appears when participating in DUEL BATTLES in the Party
Tent.)
CHALLENGE Space: Land on this space to initiate one of 3 CHALLENGE
MINIGAMES for one player. (Only appears when participating in DUEL
BATTLES in the Party Tent.)
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
SPECIAL SPACES
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
These “spaces” are, according to the manual, not actual “spaces”.
They are known as features that appear in each of the boards and
you won’t lose a number on your Dice Roll for landing or passing
one of the below spaces… I mean “features”… (Well, for this
section, I’ll still call them “spaces” anyway…)
STAR Space/Area: Here you’ll earn a Star. Sometimes it will be
granted to you for free, but for the most part, it will require
some coinage on your part. It varies depending on the board and
mode you’re playing.
COIN Space/Area: Passing this area (or space) will earn you a
certain number of coins after hitting the coin block. (Only appears
when participating in DUEL BATTLES in the Party Tent.)
SHOP Space: Here you can purchase one of three candies that the
shop will have available to you. The price ranges depending
CANDY Space: You’ll earn a free Candy for passing this space. The
candy you earn will be randomly selected.
INTERSECTION: A fork in the road where you can choose which path
you want to follow. Be sure to use the Map to your advantage and
take note of where your opponents are, what traps lie ahead and
where the Star is before making your choice.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
CHUMP CHARITY
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
This event appeared earlier in the FAQ in the Boards section but
you may be wondering, what exactly is Chump Charity anyway? Well
basically, at the start of the fifth-to-last turn in a Battle Royal
or Tag Battle, a special event will occur whereby MC Ballyhoo will
grant all players or the player in last place a reward. The rewards
vary depending on the board but here are some of the general
rewards a player could receive:
* For all Boards, all Spaces will have Coins on them except the
ones players are standing on. Red Spaces earn you five coins while
any other space earns you only a single coin. Once coins are picked
up, they disappear so be sure to have a Dice Block-enhancing Candy
for this turn.
* On one or two boards like Koopa’s Tycoon Town, the person in last
place will earn a 30-coin bonus!
* On most boards, the person in last place will get a free piece of
valuable candy!
This is something that players who aren’t as good can look forward
to, especially when playing with 4 human friends.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
BONUS STARS
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
At the end of a Tag-Team or a normal match, once all the turns are
over, MC Ballyhoo will award Bonus Stars to some of the players. In
order for this event to take place, though, the Bonus Stars option must
be ON (I’ve NEVER played with it OFF in any Mario Party). There are six
bonus stars that players can earn and three will be randomly selected
to be given away.
(1) MINI-GAME STAR: Awarded to the player or team who earns the most coins in mini-games.
(2) CANDY STAR: Awarded to the player or team who USED (not earned) the most candy.
(3) GREEN STAR: Awarded to the player or team who lands on the most Green Spaces.
(4) RUNNING STAR: Awarded to the player or team who moved the most spaces.
(5) SHOPPING STAR: Awarded to the player or team who SPENT the most coins at shops and/or other board-specific events (e.g, Dolphin
Shuttles).
(6) RED STAR: Awarded to the player or team who lands on the most
Red Spaces.
Which Bonus Stars MC Ballyhoo awards is ALWAYS a mystery so your
actions PRIOR to this event are key. Try to do things in the board that will make you a shoo-win for some of the Bonus Stars. Again, this keeps players on the edge till the end so I strongly suggest you always keep the Bonus Stars on cause you’ll never know what happens.
MINI-GAMES OVERVIEW / 4-PLAYER GAMES
**************************************
This section will now start us off in looking more in-depth at the
mini-games found in Mario Party 8. We’ll start off with an overview
of the next few sections.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
OVERVIEW
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
For the below sections that involve mini-games, the following
format will be used:
(Mini-Game title)
Objective - the objective of the game in a sentence or two
Fun Factor - how fun the game is, out of 5 stars (if it has a slash
and two star ratings, it’s in between)
Difficulty - how easy/hard the game is on a scale of 1-5
# of Players - specifies how many people can play the game
Gameplay Type - simultaneous or alternating and how the Wii Remote
is used in the respective mini-game
> Normal: used as a POINTER
> Sideways: used as an NES CONTROLLER
> Flat: used with the pointer facing STRAIGHT
> Upwards: used with the pointer facing UPWARDS
> Clenched: held sideways with your hand clenching it
My Advice - my advice for earning high on the ranking tables and/or
for those aiming for World Records
(N) indicates if a game uses the Nunchuk peripheral.
<<< >>> indicates if: (a) the game’s name is a play-on-words or
a reference to saying, (b) if it is an allusion to a previous
Mario Party title, or, © if the game is played in the same way
as another Party game.
Mini-Games: 4-Player
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Alpine Assault
OBJECTIVE: Head down the mountain slope on your snowboard avoiding
obstacles.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***/****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Flat
MY ADVICE:
- Just like in Banana Blitz, watch out for the snowmen. Crashing
into them will waste valuable time.
- Be careful when jumping off ramps that there aren’t any traps
below you.
- At the start, stay near the edges if you can and avoid your
rivals as they’re likely to crash into you.
- Hold A/B as soon as you start to go off on the Purple Ramps to
rotate your board in mid-air and gain extra speed.
- Head off to the left at the last ramp to avoid the last snowman.
<<< Allusion: Snow Ride >>>
<<< Plays Just Like: >>>
Banana Blitz / Monkey Snowboard
At the Chomp Wash
OBJECTIVE: Clean off the dirty Chain Chomps before your opponents.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: **/***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: */**
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Normal
MY ADVICE:
- You don’t need to be dead on when cleaning off the paint. Just
scrub as fast as you can in a rotary motion and you should do
fine.
- Holding the control as you would when playing Punch-a-Bunch or
Rowed to Victory while scrubbing vigorously may wield the best
results.
<<< Play-on-Words: At the Car Wash >>
Crank to Rank
OBJECTIVE: Place your flag at the top of the flagpole before your
opponents.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Normal
MY ADVICE:
- Obviously, the faster you go, the better your performance.
- Smaller, shorter circles are key.
- You need to turn in the RIGHT direction for it to go up. It goes
up in a clockwise direction.
Flip the Chimp (Also a DUEL MINIGAME)
OBJECTIVE: Help your monkey reach the top of the rope whilst
avoiding falling debris.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Upwards
MY ADVICE:
- Any time you see something moving/falling towards you, move
instantly to the other side. There are no tricks (like in Bugs
Balance in Banana Blitz).
- It is possible for there to be a tie/draw as the ropes move
automatically and all you have to do is dodge the coconuts as
they’ll slow you down.
- After moving in a direction, move the Remote back in its neutral
upwards position.
<<< Allusion: Vine Climb >>>
<<< Plays Just Like: >>>
Banana Blitz / Bus Balance
In the Nick of Time
OBJECTIVE: Copy the example clock by using the Wii Remote to match
the Hour and Minute Hands.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: **
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Normal
MY ADVICE:
- Watch the outline carefully and judge whether or not you’ll have
to spin clockwise or counter-clockwise from your current spot to
get there before your rivals. You can do so by looking at the
hour numbers.
- Remember, match the blue hour hand first, then the red minute
hand.
- Speed should precede accuracy at first but accuracy precedes
speed as you reach the outline.
<<< Reference to Saying >>>
<<< Plays Just Like: >>>
WarioWare/(Game with the Clock)
Kartastrophe
OBJECTIVE: Participate in a 2-lap kart race.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Stay as close to the insides of the track as possible.
- Turn as early as possible in preparation for corners.
- Avoid the grassy areas.
- Let go of the gas or break when going around the two tight turns
in the middle of the track.
- Right before the hairpin turn in the middle of the track that
require two tight turns, stay along the outside and turn at the
right moment whilst releasing the gas a bit.
<<< Allusion: Kart Wheeled, Slot Car Derby >>>
<<< Play-on-Words: Catastrophe >>
Lava or Leave ‘Em
OBJECTIVE: Avoid the separating Podoboos as long as possible.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***/****
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Step on the heads of your opponents to slow them down but avoid
doing this once everyone’s separated as you can land on top of a
Podoboo!
- Stay away from your opponents as much as possible.
- Over time, more and more Podoboos will appear.
- Stay away from the edges as you could easily fall off.
<<< Play-on-Words: Love or Leave Him >>>
Mario Matrix
OBJECTIVE: Touch the flashing hexagons for points.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***/****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Normal
MY ADVICE:
- Don’t WAIT for the hexagons to start flashing. Move the cursor
around in a circular motion around the field and watch the screen
carefully: you can, then, very quickly grab it for the point.
- You’ll hear a chime through your Remote speaker if you got the
point. If you didn’t hear it, then simply move onto the next one
as you didn’t get the point.
- If you take too long, the panels will disappear.
<<< Allusion: Smashdance >>>
Mosh Pit Playroom
OBJECTIVE: Pop 50 balloons of your colour before your opponents!
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Go for the balloons that are in smaller clumps, then, go for the
bigger ones to earn yourself a quick win over your opponents who
will, most likely, go for the bigger clumps first, then struggle
to find the individual balloons.
- Unless you’re really behind, don’t bother trying to stomp on the
heads of your rivals as you’ll just be wasting your own time if
you do so intentionally otherwise.
Punch-a-Bunch
OBJECTIVE: Players use their boxing gloves to destroy the Bowser
statue the quickest.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Clenched
MY ADVICE:
- Inflict the most damage possible by waiting for the boxing glove
to swell up. If you go too late, it’ll swell back down again.
- Longer, stronger punches can be very effective but sometimes,
if you’re too slow, it wastes too much time and creates a big gap
between you and your rivals.
- Shorter, faster punches may seem best at first, but stronger
punches ultimately work better.
<< Allusion: ??? (Don’t know the name of the game) >>>
Rudder Madness
OBJECTIVE: Guide your lilypad to the goal.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Upwards
MY ADVICE:
- Just like in Sick and Twisted, you need to reach the finish line
to be granted the victory.
- Avoid crashing into your rivals.
- Avoid heading to the front of the screen before the camera can
reveal what next befalls you.
- Stay off to the left side: there are less obstacles to obstruct
your path.
- The results of the race can be really close. Go as straight as
possible at the end.
<<< Play-on-Words: Rubber Madness >>>
Scooter Pursuit
OBJECTIVE: Shoot your opponents on futuristic scooters to score
points.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ****/*****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Avoid fire from your opponents by manoeuvring around the circular
stand near the middle of the arena.
- Never stay in one place for long. Always stay on the move.
- You can shoot at opponents behind while the one in front is
flashing/stunned.
- Don’t always rush your opponents. Sometimes it’s better to
isolate yourself from your rivals and once they group, you can
shoot multiple times in hopes of earning a lot of points.
<<< Allusion: Cannonball Fun >>>
Shake It Up (Also a DUEL MINIGAME)
OBJECTIVE: Players must shake their soda cans as much as possible
to earn the highest height once they are opened.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: */**
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Upwards
MY ADVICE:
- What else can I say but FASTER, FASTER, FASTER!
- Hold the Wii Remote as you would if you were performing “The Thumb
Wrestler” form from WarioWare: place your thumb atop the pointer
and swing up and down as fast as possible for the best results.
<<< Reminds Me of: >>>
Sonic Shuffle / Soniccola
Sick and Twisted
OBJECTIVE: Reach the goal by jumping across spinning platforms.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **/***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Don’t fall or you’re disqualified!
- Don’t stay too close to the edge of the screen. Bullet Bills may
get fired and you won’t have a chance to avoid them.
- Don’t forget you need to make it to the END to win. If everyone
else is out, you still have to survive.
- Stay back a bit at the start for about a second. Start to go only
AFTER everyone has jumped off the starting place and onto the
next platform.
- If you try jumping on the Bullet Bills, you’ll still lose.
- This may be cheap but if you’re willing to do it go for it: if
there’s only one player left, force him to jump at inopportune
moments or knock him off to the side.
- Stay near the back of the pack to avoid rivals and Bullet Bills.
- If you’re not fast enough, the platforms will start to lower.
- When you hear a Bullet Bill being fired, be prepared to move
cause most likely, it’s aiming for you or someone near you.
<<< Allusion: Cog Jog >>>
Speedy Graffiti
OBJECTIVE: Replicate the shape outlines for points as fast as
possible.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***/****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Normal
MY ADVICE:
- Sacrifice accuracy for speed.
- If there are any breaks in your outline, you won’t get the point.
- If the brick doesn’t break apart, you left a break in the outline.
Swing Kings (Also a DUEL MINIGAME)
OBJECTIVE: Hit as many baseballs out of the park as you can!
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***/****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Upwards (Motion: Swinging)
MY ADVICE:
- You have 20 balls to go through. Stay vigilant! (Reminds me of
WarioWare as I typed that…)
- The balls will come at varying speeds and heights. Be ready for
anything.
<<< Allusion: Sunday Drivers >>>
<<< Plays Just Like: >>>
Wii Sports / Baseball
Banana Blitz / Home Run Derby
Treacherous Tightrope
OBJECTIVE: Players must balance along a tightrope to reach the
goal.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: **
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Don’t always move forward. Move backwards to balance and
stabilize the bar.
- Careful. As you progress, wind will start to blow. Move in the
Opposite direction the wind is blowing to avoid falling off.
<<< Allusion: Tightrope Treachery >>>
<<< Plays Just Like: >>>
Banana Blitz / High Wire Act
Water Ski Spree
OBJECTIVE: Water ski along the ocean waves, going up ramps for
coins but being careful of obstacles.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: **/***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: */**
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Watch the middle of the screen: Shy Guy will drop Spiny’s
to make you miss the next ramp.
- Head up the ramp as straight as possible to ensure you get the
coin. As you head off it, head into the direction where the next
ramp is whilst in the air.
- When there are two ramps side-by-side, try looking ahead to see
which one has a coin, which is USUALLY the one on the right.
- If the next ramp is right in front of you (e.g, you’re on the
left ramp and the next ramp is on the left again), chances are
Shy Guy will try to obscure your path with a Spiny. Head in
the opposite direction first, THEN head up the ramp.
Mini-Games: 2-VS-2
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Boo-ting Gallery
OBJECTIVE: Teams work together to eliminate the Boo’s as they
head inside the spooky mansion to confront the Pink
Boo.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Normal; Vertical Split-Screen
MY ADVICE:
- Fire rapidly once you reach the Pink Boo.
- Watch the path that the Boos follow and fire your shots
accordingly.
- The Pink Boo will gradually grow smaller as you hit it.
- Watch out for columns and other environment objects that will
obstruct your shot.
<<< Allusion: Mathemortician, Spider Stomp >>>
<<< Play-on-Words: Shooting Gallery >>>
Bumper Balloons
OBJECTIVE: Pop the 4 balloons of your colour before your opponents.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: */**
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Sideways; Single-Screen
MY ADVICE:
- Try to make as few movements as possible to avoid wasting time.
- Don’t drive on the grass as it’ll waste time.
- Careful not to pop your rival’s balloons or he’ll win [even faster].
Crops ‘n’ Robbers
OBJECTIVE: Two players work as a team to rid the garden of pesky
moles and to fill up carts of vegetables.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: **
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Normal; Single-Screen
MY ADVICE:
- The “hammer whacker” (who gets the reference? :P) should work to
clear a path for the vegetable grabber.
- The vegetable grabber should pick up as many veggies as he can
before heading back to the vegetable cart.
- If you’re the “hammer guy”, don’t WAIT for the moles to pop back
up after they head underground. Go for another one if you can.
<<< Play-on-Words: Cops and Robbers >>>
<<< Allusion: Bumper Crop >>>
Grabby Gridiron
OBJECTIVE: Play a game of football. Work together to score 5 points
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Sideways; Single-Screen
MY ADVICE:
- Try grabbing the footballs in the air using kicks as they fall
from up above.
- Remember, you must bring the balls to YOUR goal.
- If you’re being bombarded, step on your opponents’ heads to get
to the goal while they’re stunned.
- Help your team-mate by standing in front of your rival team’s
Goal so you can intercept the ball and pass it to your goal.
- Jump as much as possible so your rivals don’t stun you by jumping
on your head.
King of the Thrill
OBJECTIVE: Separate your team and knock your opposite rival off the
hill. You’ll win as long as one person from your team
survives.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Sideways; Single-Screen
MY ADVICE:
- Avoid the edges as much as possible.
- The cliff will begin to crumble as time goes on.
- Don’t jump on your opponent’s head unless they’re in the middle
of the platform as you could risk accidentally falling off.
- If your rival tries to jump on your head, move backwards and make
them jump on your head in such a way that will make them fall off
the edge.
- Start off with a Jump-kick if facing a computer opponent. He’ll
likely fall off right away. >_<
- If you’re facing a human player, head around the left or right of
the cliff/hill rather than heading into him straight on.
- Before the cliff starts to crumble, when you’re in the middle
with a human player to stun him, then, knock him off with a
punch.
- If facing a Hard/Very Hard computer, they usually wait for you to
make the first move. Trick them into making the first move. Also,
stay along the sides rather than heading into them straight-on.
- Avoid stepping on heads as you could fall off!
- If you get stunned, use the time as an advantage to knock the
other person off.
- If your opponents get stunned, they’ll do exactly as I suggested
above. Be careful and just avoid them until they’re back to
normal.
Lean, Mean Ravine
OBJECTIVE: Work together in your hovercrafts to reach the goal.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: **
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: ***
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote – Sideways; Split-Screen
MY ADVICE:
- Avoid the rocks as they’ll slow you down as will the geysers.
- Use the ramps to gain speed and stay in the water as much as
possible.
- Stay in the water for maximum speed.
- If you’re going off a ramp, go in the opposite direction of the
geysers.
- Even with a ramp, you can’t fly over the geysers. Move away from
them.
- If you and your partner move in opposite directions, you’ll lose
speed. Stay in sync with your partner, if possible. (Harder if
playing with a COM partner.)
- If you’re playing with a human player, direct him where to go
since you’ll go faster if you both move in the same direction.
Paint Misbehavin’ (Also a DUEL MINIGAME)
OBJECTIVE: Teams paint the most Goombas their colour to win.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: ***
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY: **
GAMEPLAY TYPE: Wii Remote - Sideways
MY ADVICE:
- Avoid moving on an opposite side you’re already on when the 5-
second mark reaches as you’ll be hard pressed, fighting for a
single point victory with your rival and moving will waste your
time.
- Fire as many paintballs as you want, there’s no limit. But don’t
waste your energy during the first 10 seconds of the match.
- Stunning your opponent is a valuable technique. Stun your
opponent by searching for an opening and shooting a paintball at
them. If you do see openings, shoot multiple paintballs. If your
rival is on the move, continuously fire, as you can earn points
while trying to stun your rival.
- Try to be on the opposite side of your rival during the last 10
seconds as you might be able to stun them for a second and this
will prove to be very useful to you.
pattern.
- If you’re playing with a human player, direct him when to row
with you: say something like STROKE, pause, STROKE, pause.
Chump Rope
OBJECTIVE: One player turns the skipping rope with Shy Guy while
the other three try not to trip over it.
FUN FACTOR/SOLO: *****
FUN FACTOR/MULTIPLAYER: ???
DIFFICULTY/SINGLE PLAYER: ***
DIFFICULTY/TEAM PLAYERS: ****
GAMEPLAY TYPE: / Single Player: Normal / Team: Normal/Upwards /
MY ADVICE:
/ Single Player /
- Try psyching out the competition by going at varying speeds.
- If someone jumps too early, go really fast to try to cause them
to trip on the rope as they land.
- The idea is not to make huge circles, but small ones.
- Try going as fast as possible for quite some time, then,
abruptly go really slow right before it reaches the ground. If
someone didn’t get out while it was going fast, hopefully
they’ll get out when you go really slow. Be sure to make them
trip on the rope – go underneath them; watch their jumps.
- Use the knowledge that there is a delay in jumping for Team
players to your advantage.
/ Team /
- Watch the rope VERY carefully as the single player will surely
Try to psych you out.
- Watch the shadow of the rope and prepare yourself for the jump.
- Careful not to jump too early or too late that you won’t get to
jump again before it comes down.
- Tell everyone to jump when they should and then trick them on
one of the jumps by telling them to go too early, but be
careful: the single-player, if they’re human, might catch on.
- Be careful! There is a slight delay while you’re jumping which
makes it even harder for human players when the rope is going
really fast.
- The computers follow a very predictable pattern. Study it if
you normally play with COM players.
