RE: Does the Wii need an Achievements system?
"Which of your friends is online" - Done already in many Wi-Fi titles.
And trust me, even then they'd be skeptical and classify it as being a "giveaway of points". xD

Wii Watchlist: Sonic Unleashed, Blast Works, Wii Fit, ACWii, SSX Blur 2, Elebits 2
Wii Wishlist: SatSR, Galaxy, Brawl, Elebits, Zack/Wiki, NiGHTS, MSOG
Now Playing: MKWii, SEGA Superstars Tennis, WarioWare
PC FIXED!! Perfect connection in MKWii!! (4768 7994 7902)

Its done in MSC for starters. xD
Anyway, some N games are experimenting w/ an Achievement-like system (e.g., Mario Party DS) so who knows what the future holds. :o

RE: Does the Wii need an Achievements system?
I really don't care about this one as much. It's a cool system but it ultimately does nothing but gives you a number saying how much of each game you really played. I also know that the system will not be integrated on the Wii for the purpose that it would be too much work to update every game to be achievement compatible.
But if they do for some odd reason I wouldn't really care. It's a fun little number that gives some extra play value to a game, but it ultimately it's just a number.

Yeah, sorta. See, they're experimenting with it in quite a few games and I can easily see third-parties like SEGA adopting a similar system.

RE: Does the Wii need an Achievements system?
Yeah, these games are doing it, but still only on a per game basis. It won't ever be good until we have a Wii gamertag sort of system.
Also, I take back everything I said before. After playing on a friends 360 I realised how much extra time I would put into a game to get an achievement xD

RE: Does the Wii need an Achievements system?
Some people are actually addicted to ggames because of the achievements system, losing jobs, getting suspended, etc. And the Wii's just fine the way it is. Plus, the achievements means more cheaters, hackers, and those type of people, who take the fun out of getting achievements for competition.

RE: Does the Wii need an Achievements system?
It doesn't need one, but it adds to gameplay value, even if it's just because you want to be the best gamer in your country. With the most points, i sure know how hard i've been trying to unlock certain achievements in the old classic streets of rage 2 on my 360.
