Personally, I think it's horrible. EA I think just bought a company, and Rare is gone now... I think it takes away entirely from the competition...
...
...
How are companies bought out anyways? :S
Don't Oh My God me, I'm only 13. =P

RE: Do you think it's bad that companies are buying each other?
They don't get bought, they are selling themselves out basically.
Because if they do get bought by a bigger company they normalyl stand a chance in surviving. One of the few companies that didn't give into this stupid buy out thing was namco and bandai, instead they decided to Join together so they could survive this next generation of gaming, as making games nowadays costs alot more, it means they are also developing longer than they use to. So, if a game fails, it can cost a company big time.
Put it this way. Almost everygame you play is from a company, within antoher company.
Criticon makes burnout, but EA own criticon, after EA proposed to buy out Criticon. The difference is when a company buys another, they may influence their games, and you can certainly see this with the Burnout series, sadly.

RE: Do you think it's bad that companies are buying each other?
No problem. To be honest i wouldn't know stuff like this if i never asked these sort of questions myself in the first place anyway. it's not like people just know it. Although i took business studies at highschool, which kinda helps on this part.
I could give rare as an example, microsoft proposed to buy them and i believe either microsoft approached rare or rare wnated to sell thier 51% share in thier company, probably for a money boost or something. So microsoft bidded enough for rare probably.
Although i think microsoft, bought rare out, so rare just agreed to the deal probably. And then at the same time, nintendo sold their share in rare to microsoft i believe. So yeah. But rare didn't have to agree to the sale of their 51% but they probably had good reasons in doing so.

You're an adult? :O I never knew that...
Oh thanks. One day all the companies will be merged into one. Is that a bad thing?

RE: Do you think it's bad that companies are buying each other?
If that happened, it would be a monopoly, which is against some trade regulations, cos then they don't have competition, and so they can do/ charge what they like as there is nobody else trying to beat or stop them. Imagine a world where all computers were made by one company, and all ran the same operating system, and when the new one came out, they could brick the old system and make you buy the new one if they wanted, as there would be no other choices, and creativity would die, as they wouldn't have to think of ways of making themselves better than others... technology could come to a standstill and then we'd all be stuck with nothing to look forward to

Case in point = Rare being bought by Microsoft. Enough said there...
But it can be for the better to enhance gameplay experience/market share, etc, etc but if the fans aren't pleased with the new transition, then they'll lose out...

Wow kai, you really have a good point... Hopefully that'll never happen, but if it does, I'll be dead.

It's unlikely to happen if it did, it'd be like a slave trade again, working our asses off, just to pay for food costing like £200

RE: Do you think it's bad that companies are buying each other?
Yeah... just imagine if a game cost for $400 just for 1... thatd be dreadfull, but thankfully there are bodies in place to prevent monopolies forming, and to ensure the consumer isn't going to be taken advantage of
