RE: Are games "hurting" kids?
Of course they are, but it depends.
Most games i have don't hurt my hands at all.
However i've recently aquired virtual tennis 3, which hurts my left hand an extreme amount if i play it too much, due to repetitive strain, but if it hurts why still do it? Because it's fun.
It's the same for when kids break bones.
Besides, whats so unnnatural about getting hurt? Surely if Games are bad, then why do they let us use pc's in school, and such, which can cause repetitive hand strain just from typing.
Because it's the future.
It's stupid but this is how it's going. Everything hurts people.
It's fact, nothing is going to just help us.

SO. I can testify to that with Rayman Raving Rabbids. Trust me. It'll give your hands a "workout". But I think, too, there's a bit of stereotypes about how gaming impedes on a child's mental abilities and ultimately "hurts" their learning capacities when it's ultimately the opposite and how games can be used to affect one's behaviour into "hurting" another human being but I won't get into that since that's a sensitive subject.
I think the Wii is putting a hamper on this idea of how games "hurt" kids/teens and it makes them more engaged in a game, rather than sitting on a computer pressing arrow keys or clicking a mouse all the time. I think there's a bit more to it than that, though..

I got hurt by a game that never got sequel, oh how you tortue us skies of arcadia. Oh well theres still hope.
And well.
@ Knux
Games aren't making you dumb, some games are very intelligent, you have to solve some hard puzzles using your brain power, whilst at the same time remember the controls off by heart without looking down. Whilst watching tv at the same time, now tell me how can you be dumb if you can do that, whilst solving some hard puzzles.

RE: Are games "hurting" kids?
I love how sarcastic, probably even cynical this article is.
That said, I don't think video games are hurting anyone, but considering I'm a gamer, I dunno how true this opinion is.
I don't think I've ever hurt myself by playing a video game. Sure, some games can get a bit hectic and stressing or exercising (Dance Dance Revolution says Hi), but never to the level of hurting, for me anyway.

^ Pssh, yeah. I'm sure we can all mention DDR for that. Heh.

EF: Are you kidding me? I never said they were. Games are amazing in terms of how much they challenge your mental faculties and how much they're able to stretch one's imagination and limits. I said: "[T]here's a bit of stereotypes about how gaming impedes on a child's mental abilities and ultimately "hurts" their learning capacities". I said that because that's what parents mostly think, that games lack what's the word.. not educational value but... anyway, they think that games don't challenge one's mind enough I guess. It's hard to explain a bit and maybe you can explain it a bit better but I think you know what I mean. With games like Big Brain Academy, Brain Age and many other puzzle games (even Sudoku titles), parents can't possibly say anymore that games don't serve enough benefit to kids. But they need to be more open-minded and see that non-"educational" games are certainly of great benefit to one's mental abilities also, especially puzzle games. I'm big on Puzzles myself. Monkey Balllllll, ftw!
